After more than a century, the YWCA is Peoria is closing it's doors. The organization last year abandoned it's Lakeview headquarters and laid off 13 employees in an attempt to regain it's financial footing, but it wasn't enough. The YWCA moved from downtown Peoria to the Lakeview location in 2003, and took out a $3-Million loan to build a swimming pool at the new headquarters. The YWCA now has 22 employees and serves a couple hundred people, including a number of homeless clients. Other Peoria area agencies may step in to maintain services for those people.
