Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn's administration is softening its promise that inmates transferred from the high-security Tamms prison after it closes will be under "identical" security rules elsewhere. The Associated Press interviewed prison employees and reviewed internal Corrections Department documents. They indicate fewer guards with fewer chains are necessary for sometimes-dangerous Tamms inmates after they transfer to the Pontiac prison. Quinn plans to close the ``supermax'' prison to save money. Corrections Director S.A. ``Tony'' Godinez promised lawmakers last spring that Tamms safeguards would follow inmates to Pontiac. Now Godinez spokeswoman Stacey Solano says Pontiac can't duplicate every "process and protoco" from Tamms but security is sufficient. Twenty-seven Tamms inmates transferred to Pontiac as part of the closure before an employee-union lawsuit halted the plan.
