Sales of the Mitsubishi vehicle which began production in central Illinois during July were at their highest monthly levels during September. According to figures released by the Japanese automaker, there were 2,253 Outlander Sports sold in the U.S. last month. That compares to the previous monthly record for the model of 1,618 set this past March. September's Outlander Sport sales are about 50% higher than the same month a year ago. President and CEO Yoichi Yokizawa says the model and its marketing campaign are "resonating with customers." Meanwhile, U. S. sales of the all-electric Mitsubishi i were at 37 last month. That's the highest total since 85 buzzed off dealer lots in May. Overall Mitsubishi sales were 17.2% off compared to September of 2011. Yokizawa says sales are still "slightly affected" by the end of production for some models last year.
