The Normal Town Council will consider a new contract with the Firefighters Union next week. The proposed agreement would run until March of 2016. It includes two annual pay increases of 2.85% per year and a provision for new negotiations on wages for the final two years of the contract to take place a couple years from now. The pact also changes the way sick leave accumulates, boosts the town match to deferred compensation accounts, and eliminates compensatory time cash-outs from that matching contribution. It took negotiators several bargaining sessions, and a mediation session, followed by another negotiation without the mediator to reach the understanding.
