An online auction brought in $1.64 million for 80 of the horses once owned by indicted former Dixon Treasurer Rita Crundwell. Crundwell is accused of misappropriating more than $53 million from Dixon to help support a lavish lifestyle and her nationally renowned horse breeding operation. She's pleaded not guilty. The US Marshals Service set up the online auction, and the money brought in could ultimately go to help reimburse the northwestern Illinois city for its alleged losses. The sale prices for the horses ranged from $1,050 to $226,000. Authorities say another 300 of Crundwell's quarter horses will be auctioned off later this month at her ranch in Dixon. The marshals also are trying to sell her luxury motor home.
