Police in Normal now say the 14 year old gunman and hostage taker at Normal Community High School had three handguns with him. The boy fired one of the guns into the ceiling of a health class last week before teacher Derrick Schonauer overpowered him, but two others were in the boy's backpack. Police Chief Rick Bleichner says the additional weapons might change the public perception of the incident.
"You know certainly I can't get into motive or why or any of that at this point because I think we're still trying to piece that together and get an accurate picture of it, but I think it certainly makes you understand that the potential for this situation was very great."
Bleichner says there was ammunition for all three weapons. Bleichner says he is not yet releasing information about where the guns came from, though investigators have determined those facts.
