Enrollment has dropped 6.8 percent at Eastern Illinois University this school year. At Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, enrollment fell nearly five percent, the eighth consecutive year the number of students has fallen at SIU. Illinois State University fall enrollment figures are due out Thursday afternoon, though they are expected to be steady. EIU blames ``a tough economy coupled with a decrease in state financial aid.'' Eastern's freshman class has about 1,900 students. The senior class has about 3,100 students.
