This would have been a bad year to install that outdoor firepit. McLean County has joined other counties and cities in central Illinois by instituting a ban on outdoor fires. McLean County Emergency Management Agency Director Curtis Hawk says the ban is because of the hot dry conditions in the region. He says those conditions have resulted in a number of large grass fires over the past few weeks.
Bloomington, Normal, and several other communities had already enacted open fire bans.
