The Normal town council is not sold on the idea of a feasibility study for an uptown grocery store. Green Top Grocery Cooperative asked for the $20,000 study, but the council decided to study the idea of a study. Uptown Normal, and the ISU campus have been deemed "Food Deserts" by the USDA because of the absence of grocery stores. The last grocery in the area was the Redbird IGA Foodliner at Main and Dry Grove, which closed 30 years ago. The council did give it's approval for plans to donate abandoned bikes not sold at auction to charities, and voted to rezone land adjacent to the Community Cancer Center to allow for expansion of the facility.
