Plunging gas prices are causing fewer people to buy electric vehicles. That's borne out by the dwindling number of Mitsubishi i vehicles sold in the U.S. last month. The Japanese automaker with a plant in Normal saw its fewest electric car sales last month since the national roll-out earlier this year. Only 33 i cars quietly buzzed off of showroom floors during June. That's a drop from 85 in May and 79 in April. Overall sales were down 34% last month compared to a year ago, although sales of models currently being produced jump more than 10%. Sales of the Outlander Sport, which shifts production to Normal later this month, were up 13% compared to June of 2011, and have increased a modest 2.6% through the year.
