The transition center in Peoria is one of three that will remain open, despite Governor Pat Quinn's plans to close some centers along with a pair of prisons. The Illinois Department of Corrections says the governor plans to keep the center open, along with the Fox Valley Adult Transition Center, and Chicago's North Lawndale adult transition center. The DOC says the Fox Valley and Peoria centers have the highest job placement rate of any Department of Corrections facilities. The Aurora center has provided education, counseling and workforce training to 2,250 women since August 2000. All three facilities help former inmates transition into society after they're released from prison.
