The Bloomington City Council has approved $450,000 for sidewalk improvements for the next fiscal year which begins next spring. That's double last year's allocation. Under the city's 50/50 sidewalk repair program, homeowners can get sidewalks repaired through a city contractor, and only pay 50% of the cost. Residents are also encouraged to contact the Public Works Department if they see hazardous sidewalks. Members of the council will also look at accommodating bicyclists safely, one council member says they should ride on sidewalks, while another wants the city to examine connecting the various sections of the Constitution Trail.
