Students at Normal Community High School may someday be able to ride their bicycles to class with greater safety. The Normal Town Council last night approved a proposal to spend $180,000 to extend Constitution Trail on the north side of Raab Road from Airport Road to the school. Earlier this spring hundreds of students, accompanied by the mayor, rode to school on the two-lane blacktop that is currently the only way to get to NCHS. Years ago the council signed an agreement with the developer of the Vineyards subdivision to install sidewalks, but it never happened. When another developer snatched up the property last year, an annexation agreement was attached stipulating curbs and sidewalks be added, so far that hasn't happened, but the agreement gives the developer until the end of the year to do the work. The council also brought back the Harmon Arts Grant, and approved $10,000 in additional funding for the grant, and gave approval for a budget which contains $855,440 for street resurfacing.
