Whether or not an east side bypass should be built around the twin cities is one of the main topics Bloomington Mayor Steve Stockton would like to see discussed during a community-wide visioning experience he'd like to start before leaving office. Stockton says such a dialogue would open the eyes of those who don't feel there's a need for an east-side bypass.
Stockton says community residents want answers to questions from those planning the major east side highway.
He says McLean County will face major headaches in the future if it fails to follow through on a planned east side bypass.
Stockton says Veterans Parkway is the busiest street between Chicago and St. Louis. He says if residents held an open dialogue about long-range issues, they would have a greater appreciation for the balancing act public officials do every day. He says alternatives to creating a bypass would have to include greater alternative transportation options.
