The Peoria City Council not only voted against allowing food vending trucks in the downtown area, it's looking at reducing the number of food cart vendor licenses from 13 to 10. There are only 7 carts currently on downtown Peoria streets. The measure before the council would have charged the food truck operators $3,400 a year to operate, with a $1,000 discount if the operator also has a traditional restaurant. Members of the council voting against the food trucks say they would cut into the business of long standing brick and mortar dining establishments without generating new customers.
