Illinois state Senator Suzi Schmidt has been arrested for allegedly damaging her neighbor's property. Schmidt, a Republican who last year dropped her re-election bid after her dysfunctional marriage became public knowledge, was charged yesterday with criminal damage to property and criminal trespass to property, both misdemeanors. She was later released after posting $500 bail. Lake County Sheriff Wayne Hunter says the charges stem from damage Schmidt did to her neighbor's animal feed bag, valued at less than $300. Schmidt's political fortunes took a hit last year when tapes of 911 calls revealed the senator telling police to ignore her husband's complaints during a domestic dispute.
