State Senator Dave Koehler says he sees no real obstacle to his bill to return Wildlife Prairie Park to private hands. Koehler says he has been disappointed in the failure of the state to support the park since creator Bill Rutherford gave it to Illinois a decade ago. Koehler also says he does not want to set a precedent of privatizing state sites, even though the Department of Natural Resources has been heavily cut....
"I don't want to connect to, I want to say that this is a unique situation in which the park uh, you know, has only been in state hands for ten years, and now we're in the process of returning it back to the community."
Koehler says another thing that has changed over the decade is that a not for profit group of volunteers and fundraisers has grown to support Wildlife Prairie Park and are now capable of caring for the community asset.
