Bloomington Normal unemployment edged downward slightly in April to 6.2% compared to April of last year. Jobless rates fell in ten major metropolitan areas in the state and were unchanged in two larger cities according to the Department of Employment Security. The Peoria unemployment rate of 7.1% is more than a full point lower this April than last. Even though unemployment rates have fallen, Bloomington Normal still has 1,300 fewer people with jobs than a year ago. Twin cities government and retail trade sectors lost the most jobs. Peoria's non farm employment sector has grown in the same period by 5,200 positions. Peoria manufacturing, professional and business services, and the education and health service sectors have all expanded in the last twelve months.
