As many as 100 graves have been vandalized in a Pekin cemetery. Police and officials at Lakeside Cemetery say dozens of heavy gravestones were found toppled from their bases on Tuesday. Since then volunteers have been working to repair the graves. The 130-acre cemetery is along Illinois Route 29 and has graves of Civil War veterans. Pekin Police Sgt. Erik Shipman calls the vandalism ``malicious.'' There have been no arrests. Authorities also found smashed vases, lights and other ornamentation. Volunteers working to repair the broken graves say the reconstruction will take hours. Volunteers say they wanted to get to work before this weekend's Memorial Day holiday.
