Politicians usually aim for first place, but every once in a while they scheme to wind up last , and that may lead to a change in Illinois election laws. The last person to file for an office is also listed last on the ballot. That's considered a good spot because some frustrated voters may go down the list and simply pick the final name. Election officials say that sometimes leads to disagreements over who is last in line or candidates missing their chance to file. The Legislature is considering a lottery to decide who gets the coveted last spot. Anyone filing within an hour of the deadline would be eligible. The change was approved by the House and awaits Senate action.
