Unions in Bloomington Normal say not everyone is made to get a college degree. Mike Matejka of the Laborers Local says the construction and trades are offering a quick peek Tuesday morning at apprentice programs for electricians, carpenters, cement masons, and more to middle schoolers.

Matejka says in some cases, successful apprentices need only three or four more classes at Heartland Community College to get an associate's degree. Matejka says more than a hundred Bloomington Junior High School students are slated for the demonstrations at the electrical workers hall on Beich Road.
