Adding a bicycle lane along the Main Street Corridor was the hot topic at the Citizen Voice Meeting held Monday at Northpoint Elementary School. About 60 people attended the event, including local cyclists who addressed the Bloomington City Council in support of the Main Street Feasibility Study, which proposes a bike lane along the nine-mile stretch. Bloomington City Manager David Hales says there is debate on both sides, but the Illinois Department of Transportation, which funded the study, is starting to embrace a complete-street philosophy:
Hales says the next step is to meet with IDOT and the Town of Normal Staff to determine if bicycle lanes along Main Street are necessary.
