Bloomington Normal's Trades and Labor Assembly is marking a workers' memorial day tomorrow at White Oak Park to honor people killed on the job. Mike Matejka is with the union group.

Matejka says national figures show there is an average of six construction deaths per day in the U-S. He says a death happens in McLean County every one or two years. The most recent workplace deaths in the area happened at Illinois Wesleyan and Illinois State Universities. David Powell fell off a scaffolding at IWU's Shirk Center in April of last year and a slab of building column facing fell on Steve White outside ISU's Hovey Hall on Christmas Day of 2009. At the observances tomorrow, Bloomington firefighters will present the colors and the names of more than 200 McLean County workers killed on the job will be read.
