The CEO of United and Continental airlines says a third Chicago airport would be damaging to the city. United Continental Holdings CEO Jeff Smisek says with an airport like O'Hare, there's no demand for a third:
"When you start diluting a hub, you damage the city. And whatever purported benefits a new airport would bring would be vastly overshadowed by the damage to the hub itself."
Smisek is on the same page as Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel. Emanuel wants to expand O'Hare instead, saying it would be like adding a third airport without building a new one. Smisek said United would only invest in O'Hare's expansion if there's enough demand.
