The Illinois Department of Corrections plans to save money by offering prison inmates brunch on weekends. The department plans to serve the combination of breakfast and lunch in most prisons on weekends and holidays instead of serving two separate meals. Corrections Director Tony Godinez tells Illinois House members the move will save about $2.5 million in the upcoming fiscal year. Godinez says many inmates already skip breakfast and that wastes food and the time of prison kitchen workers.
