A key state panel has approved OSF Healthcare's acquisition of Ottawa Regional Hospital and Healthcare Center. The two sides have been working toward the merger for two years. With the state approval, Ottawa Regional will formally pass into the OSF system on May first. OSF CEO Kevin Schoeplein says he's pleased with the level of support community and business leaders have offered for the project. Healthcare mergers have accelerated again in recent years as the industry positions itself for the effect of healthcare reform laws.
