Amtrak construction season starts Monday on the Chicago to Saint Louis corridor.
Rail spokesman Marc Magliari says busing will begin south of Springfield on the 16th and then in June and July buses will take passengers from Normal south because the construction zone moves north.
The Department of Transportation is upgrading tracks to handle higher speed trains. This is the final year of $1.5 billion in improvements. Magliari says the state will soon place an order for new passenger car rolling stock used at 110 mile per hour higher speeds. The Transportation Department hopes to test the higher speeds between Dwight and Pontiac this summer.
