Hundreds of Illinois students will get a hands-on experience in state parks to mark Earth Day. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources has planned events for students to teach environmental stewardship. Students will plant trees and native wildflowers, develop amphibian breeding pools and install fish attractors. School groups were selected at random during an application process conducted earlier this year. The program is supported by grants from the Illinois Conservation Foundation and the Illinois Wildlife Preservation Fund. More than 875 students will visit state parks in April and May for the sixth annual Earth Day in the Parks event.
