Amtrak is on a record setting pace for ridership in the first half of its budget year nationally and on the Chicago to Saint Louis corridor. Marc Magliari is a spokesman for the passenger rail service. He says Chicago to Saint Louis routes through Bloomington Normal have increased more than ten percent, far more than other routes in Illinois or the national average increase for Amtrak of 3.7%
Chicago to Carbondale rose six percent and Chicago to Quincy rose four percent, Magliari says, as gas prices have topped four dollars a gallon.
