LeRoy Attorney and Doctor Tom Pliura says his lawsuit against a proposed hazardous waste landfill near Clinton bought time for others to get involved. A judge has tossed Pliura's lawsuit out saying Pliura has no standing to sue. Pliura had alleged putting cancer causing polychlorinated biphenyls above a huge regional underground river is environmentally crazy. He also alleged the DeWitt County board came to agreements with landfill operator Peoria Disposal in secret and against the open meetings act. The landfill company pointed out the county board voted on the agreement in open session. The EPA first approved the permit for the new materials to be stored at the existing landfill, but now says it will study the issue again.
