The latest index of consumer sentiment in the Peoria area shows optimism in key categories. Bernard Goitein, director of Bradley's Center for Business and Economic Research, says the index is up more than five points from the same measure of consumer confidence guaged last fall.
Goitein says those surveyed between January and March are counting on the job market getting better as the year goes on.
Goitein say the index shows rising confidence in the overall nationwide economy.
Nearly a quarter of those surveyed in Peoria, Woodford, Tazewell, Marshall and Stark counties expect family financial condition improvements this year, while 11% expect them to decline. Goitein says the survey points to huge shifts this year in the purchase of big ticket items such as homes and automobiles.
