The city clerk in Mendota says the northern Illinois city has received federal notice that RR Donnelley will close its local plant and lay off 207 employees. Mendota City Clerk Emily McConville says the city has received a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act letter confirming the closure. Federal law requires employers with at least 100 employees give 60 days notice of mass layoffs or plant closings. RR Donnelley officials did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Company filings show it cut about 2,900 workers in 2011. The Mendota facility prints magazines. It has operated since 1992. Mendota is about 90 miles west of Chicago. Mendota Area Chamber of Commerce executive director Alison Wasmer says the layoffs are ``a big loss.''
