Online lottery sales in Illinois could be expanding even as the first tickets are being purchased. Sales began this past weekend and Governor Pat Quinn says online poker and other gambling games could be next.
Lottery officials say ticket sales quickly hit the $15,000 mark ahead of Tuesday's Mega Millions drawing. The jackpot was $356 million. Critics of gambling expansion say the online purchasing only further damages the social fabric of Illinois. Others say mom and pop lottery ticket sellers will see their overall business decrease because of the lottery option.
