State Representative Chapin Rose and Doctor Tom Pliura went head-to-head in the only debate for the Republican nomination to the 51st District State Senate Seat. The event, held Tuesday at the Double Tree Conference Center in Bloomington, was hosted by the McLean County Republican Women. Pliura, a practicing physician from LeRoy, said his own lack of political experience will shake things up in Springfield, unlike his opponent whom he refered to as "another career politician."
Chapin Rose said his priority is getting Illinois' budget under control and that his experience as a fifth-term State Representative will help him cut state spending.
The Republican primary will be held Tuesday.
