The Town of Normal has fired the long time head of the Children's Discovery Museum. Shari Buckellew has headed that division of the Parks and Recreation Department since 2004 and helped create the museum as a private not for profit before the town took it on and built a new home for the museum. City Manager Mark Peterson says starting Monday, the interim manager of the museum will be Carol Struck, former Olympia School Superintendent who has also held interim administrative positions in a variety of places around central Illinois. The search for a new manager, Peterson says, could take up to four months. The town says there was no malfeasance by Buckellew, just that the town is changing leadership. Peterson praises Buckellew's vision to provide an exceptional learning environment for children and families that cultivates growth in art, sciences and communications through play and creativity.
