As Illinois Wesleyan University mourns the death of an 18-year old student following a fraternity drinking party, the investigative part of the process gets under way. Brandon Landau of the Bronx, New York was found half in a stream in a northern Illinois state park nine hours after he was last seen early Sunday morning. IWU Dean of Students Karla Carney-Hall says the Sigma Pi fraternity has been cooperative so far.

Carney-Hall says Sigma Pi has 60 members and the University had not had trouble with the frat before the tragedy. IWU has extensive alcohol education programs. But, Carney-Hall says such an incident is a call to re-examine what the University is doing. The Winnebago County Coroner says Landau was legally intoxicated at the time of his death. IWU officials say they recall the last alcohol related student death was about three decades ago.
