A judge in central Illinois has sentenced a 22-year-old Dewitt County man to two years of probation and 280 hours of public service for killing seven white tail deer by running them down with an all terrain vehicle. Clay Reeves of Clinton pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of cruelty to animals. Prosecutors say a felony charge of animal torture was dismissed as part of a plea agreement because Reeves cooperated with authorities. Police officials say Reeves and another man ran over the deer at Clinton Lake with ATVs in February 2010. The second man is still facing charges. Prosecutors say Reeves will do his community service work with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.
