The fate of a $92-Million Pere Marquette renovation, and construction of a downtown Peoria Marriott now apparently hinges on a small strip of land at Main and Madison Streets that belongs to the Peoria Catholic Diocese. The Pere Marquette currently pays the Diocese $1,000 a month for the land. The church wants more money for the hunk of property, which has been leased to the hotel operators since 1925 under a 99 year lease which has a 99 year renewal option. The money goes to Catholic Charities for the disabled. Yesterday a judge refused to issue an emergency ruling on the 87 year old agreement which would clear the way for the project.
