The Town of Normal may not want the uptown traffic circle occupied over the long term. Council members will consider an ordinance to ban camping and putting up tents or other structures on the circle. City Manager Mark Peterson says the Occupy Blo-No movement had a demonstration there last year, but extended stays are not advisable...

Peterson also says there's a potential safety issue with sight lines for motorists and bicyclists if tents or shacks go up. Peterson says the town recognizes that the circle will be a popular place for protests and public assembly, but that function should also not cut into other's enjoyment or use of the space.
