The Illinois Department of Transportation has approved an environmental impact statement for the full build out of the Chicago to Saint Louis High Speed Rail Corridor. Governor Pat Quinn and Senator Dick Durbin are hailing the next step in the process. IDOT spokesman Josh Kauffman says the study also has recommendations for the line through McLean County.
The study sets track alignment between Chicago and Joliet and solidifies the tenth street corridor in Springfield as the preferred way to go through that city. Kauffman says they anticipate Federal Railroad Administration approval before the end of the year.
