A flight on its way from Chicago to Central Illinois Regional Airport in Bloomington was reportedly struck by lightning Saturday. No injuries were reported.

American flight 2885 landed safely at CIRA after the reported strike, airport officials said in a Facebook post Saturday night. CIRA said that 32 passengers and three crew members were on board.

If you're planning your summer vacation, you might want to make a stop next month at the Central Illinois Regional Airport (CIRA). The airport is launching a pop-up enrollment center for the government's TSA Pre-Check pre-screening security program, which is now available at 180 airports across the country.

Central Illinois Regional Airport leaders are still hoping to create new property taxes for rural McLean County property owners.

The idea first surfaced two years ago, when a federal budget sequester threatened to eliminate funds to operate the airport control tower.


 A new issue could be emerging in the primary election for the city of Bloomington and Town of Normal as the pressure mounts to find a replacement for soccer fields along Ireland Grove Road which host youth soccer leagues and Bloomington High School students.

American Airlines says it is increasing the size of the jets it flies between Peoria and Dallas-Fort Worth.

The airline says the new jets will have first class seats and more legroom even in coach.

TSA Pre-check Enrollment Takes Off

The busy summer travel season is over and the Transportation Safety Administration hopes it marks the end of complaints about long lines at airports and legislators chastising the agency.  Part of the strategy is to increase the number of air travelers registering for Trusted Traveler programs such as TSA Pre-check.

Baggage at the Peoria's airport originally thought to contain a bomb turned out to be a training device used at Planned Parenthood clinics. 


American Airlines new flight from and to Dallas - Ft. Worth has begun service from Bloomington.

The Central Illinois Regional Airport says the non-stop flight joined two other flights on American to north Texas. It also links to a hub with more than 200 destinations in 26 countries.

The light will have a regular daily schedule arriving in Bloomington at 12:09 p.m. and then departing from Bloomington at 1:05 p.m. and arriving in Dallas at 3:24 p.m.

McLean County Museum of History

The Central Illinois Regional Airport now has a piece of McLean County aviation history on display. The airport and County Museum of History have hung the Tilbury Flash racing airplane in a concourse. Museum Curator Susan Hartzold says engineer Owen Tilbury invented the Flash in the 1930s.
