Stanley Jordan Friends (Mack Avenue) Stanley Jordan is one of the premier jazz guitarists playing today. His two handed tapping technique allows him to play melody and chords simultaneously. Jordan's new CD features many "friends" who Jordan has been trying to get to record with him for a number of years. Highlights include his take on "Giant Steps" and the cover of Katie Perry's "I Kissed A Girl."
Chick Corea/Eddie Gomez/Paul Motian Further Explorations (Concord) Pianist Chick Corea is joined by bassist Eddie Gomez and the late drummer Paul Motian for his second live CD in the past 12 months. Always great to hear Corea's music, but hearing this trio in a live setting reminds us of the immense talents and improvisational skills of each of these performers.
Lisa Casalino Introducing Lisa Casalino (Casalino Entertainment) Lisa Casalino is a vocalist well known in her home area of Tampa, FL. With the release of her debut CD, which includes a number of standards as well as three tracks co-written with past GLT Summer concert performer Nate Najar, the rest of the country is getting a taste of what the Bay Area has known for awhile. That Lisa Casalino is a talent to keep an eye on.
Bruce Babad A Tribute To Paul Desmond (Primrose Lane)
Saxphonist Bruce Babad moved to San Diego in 1990, and not long after started backing some of the biggest names in the music biz, including The Four Tops, Little Milton, The Temptations and Barry Manilow. Babad's first release as a leader is a tribute to one of his saxphone hero's.
Michael Feinstein The Sinatra Project: Vol. 2 The Good Life (Concord) Michael Feinstein is one of todays great interpreters of the Great American Songbook. His Christmas concerts in NYC are must sees. And this is a must listen. The great interpreter interprets the great one, Frank Sinatra.
Janice Finlay Anywhere But Here (Concord) Janice Finlay is a native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, and has played with some of the jazz legends as they've come through the Red River Valley. Finlay plays in her own groups, various big bands and sits in frequently with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra "pops" concerts. She's fond of saying "Jazz is my muse."
