What's New On The Bloomington Normal Restaurant Scene

The close of  the year has resulted in a number of restaurant closings. Larry Carius joins Charlie Schlenker for a periodic update on the Bloomington Normal Restaurant Scene. Carius says one of the shuttered eateries is the long time ISU campus area place Zorba's.

The now demolished Zorba's building was also the site of the first A and W Rootbeer place in the twin cities dating back to 1964...with curbside service. And The Restaurant Scene also now reports that the A' Renee location will be the home of "Satio" focusing on small place servings with a wine bar. Satio is Italian for fulfilling or satisfying.

Some of the new food offerings in the twin cities are not to be found in restaurants. Charlie Schlenker talks with Larry Carius about a delicacy with a startling, even unbelievable price.

The Bloomington Normal Restaurant Scene Facebook page also reports Michael's Restaurant in downtown Bloomington has begun Sunday all-you-can-eat dinner buffets from 5-8 p.m. And the Flat-Top Grill in Normal is the only store in the entire chain that serves a weekend breakfast. Meanwhile, Baxter's American Grille on East Empire has begun serving weekday lunch.

WGLT Senior Reporter Charlie Schlenker has spent more than three award-winning decades in radio. He lives in Normal with his family.
