Bloomington-Normal looked a little different 33 years ago.
Back in 1984, there was less east-side sprawl, no Mitsubishi Motors/Rivian plant on the far west side, no Ironwood Golf Course in north Normal, and a much smaller Central Illinois Regional Airport.
Those are a few of the changes you can spot in a Google Earth Engine timelapse animation, showing Bloomington-Normal shapeshifting between 1984-2016. The image is made from 33 cloud-free annual mosaics made interactively explorable by Carnegie Mellon University CREATE Lab's Time Machine library.
