Stabbing Suspect Told Police Victim Threatened Her

Leila Jackson
Bloomington Police

A 22-year-old Bloomington woman charged in a fatal stabbing told police the victim had threatened her before their final confrontation, authorities said Wednesday.

Leila J. Jackson made her first court appearance Wednesday on first-degree murder charges. She’s charged with stabbing Quantez Brown, 24, with a kitchen knife during an argument early Tuesday morning in the 400 block of North Roosevelt Avenue, just west of downtown. Brown got a ride to Advocate BroMenn Medical Center but died from his injuries that afternoon, authorities said.

Jackson turned herself in to police hours after the stabbing, according to a probable cause statement read by prosecutors in court Wednesday. Jackson told police Brown had been aggressive toward her and threatened previously to “beat her up or to have someone beat her up,” prosecutors said. She said they'd been "acquainted" since January, prosecutors said.

Jackson said Brown approached her early Tuesday while she was sitting on her building’s porch and again threatened her, prosecutors told the court.

Jackson told police Brown was not armed and that she “could have just gone in the house,” according to prosecutors. The knife was later recovered at Jackson’s residence.

Jackson is being held on $2 million bond. She was appointed a public defender. Her arraignment is scheduled for 10 a.m. July 27.

Brown's autopsy was set for Wednesday.
