Sorensen Pleads Not Guilty

Former McLean County Board Chairman Matt Sorensen has pleaded not guilty to federal wire fraud charges stemming from allegations he participated in a scheme to defraud State Farm of more than $400,000.  After entering his plea Wednesday in U.S. District Court, Sorensen was released on a $10,000 personal recognizance bond.

Sorensen resigned his post Tuesday, saying he didn't want his issues to be a distraction to McLean County employees and elected officials.  An indictment released last week accused the 49-year-old Sorensen and co-defendant Navdeep Arora of defrauding State Farm of money in unearned consulting fees. The two are accused of billing clients for consulting work that never was done.

Arora was arrested Jan. 3 as he entered the U.S. on a flight from London. He pleaded not guilty Monday.
