UPDATED 5:45 p.m. | Two schoolchildren were injured Wednesday afternoon after a multiple-vehicle crash involving a school bus between Bloomington and Downs.

The Evans Junior High School bus collided with a car near the intersection of U.S. 150 and Abraham Road in southeast Bloomington, Illinois State Police said in a statement. The bus overturned. Police diverted traffic around the crash and closed off U.S. 150 during the afternoon commute.

There were 47 children on the bus, according to Unit 5. Paramedics on scene checked on the condition of the children. Unit 5 said the injuries to the two children appeared to be minor. All parents picking up children involved in the incident were asked to go to nearby Evans Junior High School, police said.

Police asked others to avoid the area.

"The crash remains an open and ongoing investigation," State Police said.
