A $3 million overnight resurfacing project on one of Bloomington-Normal’s busiest roads is set to begin at the end of the month.

Parts of Veterans Parkway between Clearwater Avenue and Washington Street, as well as the intersection at Empire Street, will be down to one lane in both directions beginning July 30.

Illinois Department of Transportation District Engineer Kensil Garnett said zone paths can change by the day, so drivers need to be hyperaware of their surroundings.

“Pay close attention to the change conditions and the signs in the workzone,” Garnett said. “Obey the speed limits, and refrain from using mobile devices. And be alert for workers and equipment on the pavement.”

A public meeting for the project will be held from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday at Eastland Suites and Conference Center in Bloomington. The assigned contractor will discuss the process and planned changes.

The construction is expected to be completed by November.
