Rep. LaHood Supports Trump, Not Trump's Comments

Donald Trump continues to receive support from Republicans, despite comments that have been described as racist, misogynistic and divisive. 18th District Representative Darin LaHood said he will support Trump, but he will not defend Trump's comments.

"That's not the kind of Republican I am," he said. "And I have publicly talked about how I don't agree with many of the statements that he has made."

However, he said Trump is still a better choice for president than Democrat Hilary Clinton.

"When I think about the economy, who's going to get the economy back on track, who's going to put on the Supreme Court justices that reflect our values in Central and West Central Illinois, that leads me to believe that Donald Trump would be the right candidate for this," he said.

LaHood, who is up for re-election in November, said he will continue to monitor the situation. The congressman spoke during an event for senior citizens in Normal.
