Rasmussen To Be Named Interim City Manager in Bloomington

City of Bloomington
Assistant City Manager Steve Rasmussen.

Steve Rasmussen is expected to be named interim city manager at a special Bloomington City Council meeting on Thursday.

If approved, Rasmussen will take over as interim city manager Nov. 8, when City Manager David Hales leaves for his new job in Joliet. Rasmussen has been Bloomington's assistant city manager since 2014.

“I am pleased we are looking to appoint Steve Rasmussen as Bloomington’s interim city manager,” Mayor Tari Renner said in a statement. “He has history and background with Bloomington and will provide the stability needed during this critical interim period while we perform a key search for the next city manager of Bloomington. I appreciate his willingness to serve.”

Rasmussen previously served as chief city administrator of Jefferson, Missouri, from 2006-2011. He is a retired Army colonel who attended the U.S. Air Force Academy.

“It is my pleasure to serve the City of Bloomington,” Rasmussen said in a statement. “It will be an honor to be asked by the City Council to serve in this capacity.”

Renner and Bloomington aldermen apparently reached consensus Monday during their third executive session focusing on the interim city manager appointment. Two previous sessions did not yield a decision.
